"Close to a kingdom"

Films: In the Spider's Web (2007)

Alias: None

Type: Natural

Location: Jungle/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: That of average tarantulas.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: Tarantulas are scary. There is no dancing around it. They are an arachnophobe's worst nightmare. And yet, people find reason to be fascinated by them. Not a bad thing really, but it can become irksome when you're either trying to get over a spider bite or in the middle of illegal activities.

History: Deep within the jungles of India, a rare species of highly venomous spider resides, its kind enshrined in sacred temples where they breed like rabbits. One of them has bitten one of a group of local tourists, and from there, the rest find out that a local American doctor is conspiring with the natives to use the spider venom to paralyze folks so that he can harvest their organs and sell them. Soon, the temple becomes a battleground for both the tourists, the bad guys, and the spiders, who now have to put up with some rowdy houseguests.

Notable Kills: All of their prey gets encased in web for storage.

Final Fate: The spiders make short work of the evil doctor, but at the same time, they are currently holding one of the tourists as a prisoner. Bottom line, don't f*ck with the spider's house.

Powers/Abilities: Incredibly lethal venom.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4-Once again, we have unusually social tarantulas coming in to wreck your day. Although the CGI can be rather hokey, it's when real spiders are utilized that the fright comes naturally.

Trivia: -Oddly, the spider is identified as being Bolivian in origin. And like always, he would be wrong anyway about there being ANY deadly tarantulas in the world.

-Spiders don't have a particularly favorable rep in Asia. Just one example is Jorogumo, a Yokai whose name literally translates to "spider prostitute". It is mostly described as a half-woman arachnid monstrosity that lures people in with her looks. That being said, at least one other interpretation sees her as a goddess who selflessly saves people from drowning.
